History of Generations
Zaccheus (husband of Virginia) (1807-1879) was son of Dr. Zaccheus Newcomb (1767-1831), and grandson of Revolutionary War soldier Zaccheus Newcomb (1725-1790, son of Thomas Newcomb) who’s wife Sarah Tobias built “The Old Brick House” known as the Newcomb Brown Estate, built in the 1770s. Early records reveal Newcomb ownership of a 3000 acre Pleasant Valley parcel which was Great Lot 8 of the Nine Partners Patent. Dr. Zaccheus Newcomb II (1767-1831) was given the Newcomb Brown Estate on 200 acres by his father. Zaccheus III was successive owner of his father’s homestead. 9 sons of Thomas Newcomb were given houses on the massive estate. Mrs. Virginia Stevenson Wiles Newcomb was living in Pleasant Valley in 1900, and died in 1902. She sold the property to Samuel Lynch and it was later sold to Abram (Pleasant Valley New York Trustee) and Maria L. Decker, who sold to Frederick and Charlotte Terhune in 1925.
This Pleasant Valley, NY Revolutionary War era home was married carefully to a modern addition in the 1980s, expanding the footprint to accommodate a full sized Commercial venture. In the spacious basement of the original house, an early American hearth cooking fireplace, aged hand hewn beams, wide plank floors overhead, and original fieldstone walls are discovered. The entire structure of combined eras offers plenty of windows, bright spaces, bow windows, French doors, and 9-10 office rooms. The 2nd floor large conference room/library at the front is believed to have been an early large bedroom with fireplace, and a spiral staircase leading to the 3rd story attic room was constructed later. This 3 story rambling, unique office building accommodates a small town country headquarters or branch office, with modifiable reception areas, suites and open cubicles. A bonus finished lower level in the later addition offers full kitchen, 2 additional rooms, fireproof vault, access to the original basement, and walkout exit to the rear of the office building. There is central air, updated electric, and gas heating. Turn the key and begin operating as is, or consider a renovation option which can allow one to introduce meandering eclecticism and breathe new life to the structure, preparing it for it’s next phase in history. With a high traffic count, prime visibility, and large paved lot with up to 25 spaces, this is indeed a rare & extraordinary offering in a rural, historically significant area adjacent to the village. *Secured premises requires appointment to enter, escorted by broker.
